    The camera does not detect the memory card

    Solution

      Information on memory cards that can be used with the camera is available in individual product user manuals and also on Canon customer support websites. Please refer to this information and confirm that use of your memory card is possible.

      Please try the following procedures if your camera does not automatically detect the memory card;
      1. Please ensure that the memory card has been inserted correctly into your camera.
      2. Please turn the camera power off and then restart it to see if this resolves the problem.
      3. If the problem is not resolved even after you have completed steps 1 and 2, please remove and re-insert the memory card in the applicable slot and repeat step 2.
      4. If this has not resolved your issue then it may be necessary to contact the card manufacturer in case there is an issue with the card in question. If you own other memory cards you may wish to also try them in this product to verify if the issue is with the card in question.
      5. In the event that you suspect an issue with the camera itself, then it will be necessary for you to contact an authorized Canon service center for assistance.


      When a memory card is initially inserted into your camera and recognized, it will generally need to be formatted for the camera. Exact instructions on how to format a memory card are contained in the product user manual.

      Please keep in mind that the process of formatting a memory card will automatically delete all content (including protected content) previously stored on the memory card being formatted – so please ensure that any required data has been backed-up as required prior to starting the formatting process.
